Entry fee: $35. $5 discount for juniors (age 20 and under). GM/WGM/IM/WIM/FM title holders receive free entry. CFC membership is required. Prizes: TBD, based on entrants and after expenses. Byes: A maximum of two ½-point byes available in rounds 1-4 if requested before the start of round 1.The winner will receive an invitation to the 2022 Alberta Closed.

Shortly after the tournament, 2 people tested positive for COVID-19 who were at the tournament. While we believe they did not get infected at the tournament, we would advise anyone who played in the tournament in Red Deer on September 4th and has COVID-19 symptoms to please get tested immediately.
The ACA Annual General Meeting will take place after the 3rd round of the Alberta Open. The meeting will also be available on Zoom. If the Alberta Open cannot be held due to COVID-19, then it will take place on Zoom. Any ACA member may attend.

The Over/Under 1800 Tournament took place August 21-22 at the ECC. Congrats to Eddie Xu who won the Over 1800 section with a perfect 5-0 score. Also congrats to Ron Offengenden and Yash Darvekar who tied for 1st in the under 1800 section with 4.5/5. Thank you to Aaron Sequillion for directing

Entries are now open to the 2021 Edmonton Junior Regional Tournament to be held at the Edmonton Chess Club Sept 11-12. Anyone born after January 1, 2002 may enter. Organized by Dustin Koperski. Please go to 2021 Schedule and click on link to submit entry.
The ACA had an emergency meeting on Sunday, August 29 and passed a motion to adopt a new ACA COVID policy effective immediately till the end of the year for all ACA tournaments. See link below.
The Medicine Hat Open has been postponed till next year and the 4th Steinitz-Menchik GM tournament has been postponed till March 2022.
The Over Under 1800 tournament will take place Aug 21-22 at Edmonton Chess club. Entries are now open under the 2021 Schedule page. It will be organized by Ian Findlay and TD will be Aaron Sequillion. So far there are 34 entries! Please renew your CFC membership if expired before Wednesday, as that is when the CFC database gets updated.
By entering this tournament, players agree that the Edmonton Chess club, ACA and tournament organizers cannot guarantee that they will not as a result become infected with COVID-19. Entrants further certify that during the 14-day period before the tournament, they have not experienced any symptoms associated with COVID-19, which include fever, cough, or shortness of breath, or had close or direct contact with anyone who is either confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19.
