Congratulations to the winners of the WBX Team Tournament: the team led by Belsar Valencia, with contributions from Joseph Young, Alvin Guevarra, Mark Tuvera, and Jeff Anthony De Guzman, scored 10/15 tournament points to finish first. Second place was shared at 9.5/10 by the teams Jonathan Wu, Matthew Ivanescu, Raphael Lee & Dale Haessel, Roy Yearwood, Matthew Atwood.

Amir Bahmani had the best individual performance, scoring 4.5/5 on board one, ahead of Valencia and Tymur Keleberda at 4/5. Yearwood, Lee, Terance Somadasa, and Nikolai Nikolov also scored 4/5 on boards two and three.

Congratulations to Southern Alberta Open Champion Omid Malek. Malek won on tiebreak over Sigfrido Pacheco-Vega, at scores of 4.5/5. Third place went to Roy Yearwood at 4/5.

Well done also to the winners of the U1600 section: Ramon Mitra finished first with 4.5/5. Audvik Verma and Sean Kuehl shared second at 4/5.

In total, 51 players participated. Thanks to the CCC for organizing the event.

Registration is open for the 2025 WBX Team Tournament. Teams consist of three players with an average rating of no more than 2000. You may register as an individual if you do not have a full team.

Congratulations to Alberta Open champion Tymur Keleberda! He won the tournament with a perfect 6/6 score, including a key win over Omid Malek in the 5th round. Malek and Rafael Arruebarrena shared second place at 4.5/6.

In the U1700 section, David McCullough returned for his first classical event since 2015, and won with a 6/6 score. Congratulations to him, and to Garth Dunn and Arnold Garcia, who shared second place at 4.5/6.

The Alberta Chess Association is pleased to welcome its new President, Alex Nguyen. He assumed the role following the AGM on October 12th, in place of outgoing President Lars Lowther.

Additionally, Avery Michalchuk has taken the role of Treasurer, and we also welcome new directors Selena Yang and Vitaliy Andreev.
