Qualifier for the 2026 Alberta Closed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Format:<\/strong> 5-round Swiss, CFC & FIDE rated. Two sections: Premier, and Under 1700 (CFC).
Time control: <\/strong>Game in 90 minutes with a 30-second increment<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round times:<\/strong>
(1) Saturday, Feb. 14 \u2013 11:00 a.m.
(2) Saturday, Feb. 14 \u2013 3:00 p.m.
(3) Sunday, Feb. 15 \u2013 11:00 a.m.
(4) Sunday, Feb. 15 \u2013 3:00 p.m.
(5) Monday, Feb. 16 \u2013 11:00 a.m.
A 30-minute break between games is guaranteed. Default late time is 60 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry fee:<\/strong> $60 if pre-registered by 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12. $80 after. For an additional $20, U1700 players may ‘play up’ in the Premier section.
$15 discount for juniors (2006 birth year or later) and female players.
$30 discount for NMs, CMs, and 2300-rated CFC players (at the time of registration; supercedes any junior\/senior\/female discount).
GM\/IM\/FM title holders receive free entry.
Post-secondary student promotion:<\/strong> For this event, the entry fee for students with a valid post-secondary ID is $30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CFC membership is required and may be purchased on-site. Annual membership is $43 for adults, $28 for juniors. CFC tournament membership is $20 for adults, $10 for juniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration:<\/strong> Fill out the registration form below. Payment may be made by e-transfer to the organizer or on-site by cash. On-site registration and check-in runs 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 14. Players must arrive by 10:45 a.m. or they won’t be paired. Capacity is 54 players.
Prizes:<\/strong> Entry fees less ACA dues of $10 per paid participant. The winner of the Premier section (if an Albertan) qualifies for the 2026 Alberta Closed. Unrated players are ineligible for prizes in U1700.
Byes: <\/strong>A maximum of two \u00bd-point byes are available in rounds 1-4 if requested before the start of round 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qualification for Alberta Closed:<\/strong> In the unlikely event that two players finish with a 5 out of 5 score (and thus have not played each other, nor had the opportunity to do so), a single armageddon game will be played. Players will submit a bid of the lowest amount of time they would accept as Black (White will have 15 minutes) and whoever bids less will play Black with draw odds. Any first-place ties on a score of 4.5 or less will be settled directly by the ACA tie-breaking system<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
