2023 Junior Battle of Alberta

Battle Regulations
North vs. South. Dividing line: Red Deer river or 52°16’05” elsewhere in the province. Each player players two rounds against the same opponent, one game each with white and black. Drawing of lots for colours will be done immediately before round 1.

Please contact your team captain as soon as possible if you wish to join the team as a player or a substitute.

The winning team receives the Junior Battle of AB trophy. If the match ends up in a 12-12 tie, the defending champion keeps the trophy.

Team Composition

Each team will be made up of twelve players. All players must be Under-18 (born January 1, 2005 or later). Five players must be Under-12 (born January 1, 2011 or later). Each team must include at least two girls, one of whom must be Under-12. Players will be paired by rating within their section (U-18, U-12, Girls), with the captain determining who is in each section if a player qualifies into more than one.

Time control: Game in 90 minutes with a 30-second increment.

Round times: 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. The Arbiter at their discretion may postpone the start by up to half an hour if many of the players from one team are not available at the start for a good reason.

Default late time: 60 minutes unless the Arbiter decides otherwise.
Final roster/board order announcements must be made by noon, Wednesday, September 27 using the most recently published rating lists as of September 23rd.

CFC & FIDE rated. CFC membership is not required.

After the official roster announcement, replacements must be lower rated than the players they are replacing, and replace them on the same board. Replacements after the first game will only be allowed in case of an emergency. The final decision on whether to allow a replacement will be made by the Arbiter.
