This is a reminder that the Calgary International begins Friday, May 16. There are still about a dozen spots available and once the registration limit has been reached, we will sadly have to turn players away. We currently stand at 34 advanced entries, and the list continues to grow. Class players are encouraged to join as there will be a considerable amount of money in the class sections, much more than your typical weekend swiss. But hey, even if you don't win some cash, you still get to rub noses with some famous chess players! Below is the current list of advanced entries....

Wednesday May 14 at the Calgary Chess Club JUNIORS ONLY!!! I.M. Igor Zugic will give a lecture for Juniors starting at 7:30. He is expected to speak on a variety of subjects relating to tournament preparation.

Thursday, May 15: Public Simul: IM Igor Zugic, Petrocan Tower (150 - 6 Ave.SW) Northwest corner, Main
Level. 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Please feel free to show up to play, and bring a food bank donation (food or cash). The CCC will have some displays at this event including the giant chess set.

Thursday May 15: I.M. Lawrence Day & I.M. John Donaldson give a lecture at the Calgary Chess Club starting at 7 p.m. Lawrence will discuss the late I.M. Bryon Nickoloff and John will talk about Canadian legend Frank Anderson.

You are invited to participate in the Alberta Active Chess
Championship which will take place on Sunday, May 11th at the
Edmonton Chess Club. New players welcome!

Date: Sunday, May 11

Location: Edmonton Chess Club, 10840 124 st, phone (780)424-0283

Time control: Game in 30min.

Rounds:

1 - 10:00-11:00am

2 - 11:00-12:00pm

3 - 12:00-1:00pm

4 - 2:00-3:00pm

5 - 3:00-4:00pm


Entry fee: $15 for adults and $10 for juniors. ($25 for non-CFC
members).

Prize Fund: Based on number of entries.

Registration: 9:00-9:45am at the Edmonton Chess Club. To pre-
register please email the Tournament Director, Anastasia Kazakevich
at anastasiya_88 @ yahoo dot ca

Membership: CFC Membership is available at the door. $41/year for
adults and $27/year for juniors.
