Qualifier for the 2023 Alberta Closed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Format:<\/strong> 5-round Swiss, CFC & FIDE rated
Time control: <\/strong>Game in 90 minutes with a 30-second increment<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Round times:<\/strong> Saturday \u2013 10 a.m., ~2 p.m., ~6 p.m. ; Sunday \u2013 10 a.m., ~2 p.m. or ASAP.
A 30-minute break between games is guaranteed. Default late time is 60 minutes.
Entry fee:<\/strong> $50 if pre-registered by 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16. $60 after.
$15 discount for juniors (2003 birth year or later), seniors (age 65 and over), and female players. GM\/IM\/FM title holders receive free entry.
Post-secondary student promotion:<\/strong> For this event, the entry fee for students with a valid post-secondary ID is $20.
CFC membership is required and may be purchased on-site. Annual membership is $43 for adults, $28 for juniors. CFC tournament membership is $20 for adults, $10 for juniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration:<\/strong> Fill out the registration form below. Payment should be made by e-transfer to the organizer but may be made on-site by cash. On-site Registration runs 9:15 – 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 18. Players must arrive by 9:45 a.m. or they won’t be paired.
Prizes:<\/strong> Entry fees less ACA dues of $10 per paid participant. The winner (if an Albertan) qualifies for the 2023 Alberta Closed.
Byes: <\/strong>A maximum of two \u00bd-point byes are available in rounds 1-4 if requested before the start of round 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qualification for Alberta Closed:<\/strong> In the event that two players finish with a 5 out of 5 score (and thus have not played each other, nor had the opportunity to do so), a single armageddon game will be played. Players will submit a bid of the lowest amount of time they would accept as Black (White will have 15 minutes) and whoever bids less will play Black with draw odds. Any first-place ties on a score of 4.5 or less will be settled directly by the ACA tie-breaking system<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
