12 Sections<\/strong>\u00a0(Grades 1-12)

Format:\u00a0<\/strong>The exact format of each section will depend on the number of participants but players should expect to play 4 games. CFC and Chess’N Math rated. Open to Alberta residents only.

Time control:<\/strong>\u00a0Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second delay.

Entry fee:\u00a0<\/strong>$30 if pre-registered online by Noon, Tuesday, March 19, $35 afterwards and on site. The entry fee includes a light lunch. Lunch will be guaranteed only to those players who will pre-register online by noon, Tuesday, March 19.
Last year’s winners will receive free entry.

Registration
<\/strong>Fill out the registration form on the right. Payment will be made on site by cash.\u00a0The deadline for online registration is Thursday, March 21, 2019 @ 10 PM.

Approximate Schedule on March 23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registration: 10:15 am – 10:45 am
Rounds 1 and 2: 11 am – 1 pm  
Lunch: 1 pm – 2 pm
Rounds 3 and 4: 2 pm – 4 pm
Tie-breaks (if necessary) and awards: immediately after the completion of the last round<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prizes in each section<\/strong>
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers will receive trophies.
Section winners will represent team Alberta at the 2019 Canadian Chess Challenge. The ACA will provide a $350 travel grant to help offset expenses for travel to Vancouver, British Columbia for  the May 18-20 tournament. Travel reimbursement policies apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JUNIOR DRAW RULE<\/strong>
In junior only events, the draw offer and acceptance is only allowed once both players have played 30 moves. For games without scoresheets, allowing the draw will be at the TD’s discretion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tie-break procedure<\/strong>
a. There will be playoff games for 1st place ties.
b.  No play off games for 2nd or 3rd place. 
Ties are broken using Mathematical Tie-breaks (Head to Head, Buchholz, Sonnenborn-Berger, Cumulative Score, and Total Wins).\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
