Registration<\/strong>
Fill out the registration form above. Payment will be made on site by cash. Pre-registered players must show up by 10:45 am or they won\u2019t be paired.
Maximum capacity is 60 total participants. Players registering beyond that will be wait listed and only able to play in the event of no-shows.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Format: <\/strong>The exact format of each section will depend on the number of participants but players should expect to play 4 games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time control: <\/strong>Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second increment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry fee: <\/strong>$15 if pre-registered online by 10 PM, Friday, February 11, $20 afterwards and on site. CFC rated. ACA junior membership required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Byes: <\/strong>Up to two 1\/2-point byes are allowed in rounds 1-3 if requested before the start of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Approximate Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On-Site Registration: 10:15 am \u2013 10:45 am
Rounds 1 and 2: 11:00 am \u2013 12:30 pm 
Lunch break: 12:30 pm \u2013 1:00 pm
Rounds 3 and 4: 1:00 pm \u2013 2:30 pm
Tie-breaks (if necessary) and awards: immediately after the completion of the last round<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st place: Free entry to the 2022 Alberta Youth Chess Championship (held on Apr 23-24 in Edmonton)
2nd place: Free entry to the 2022 Alberta Youth Championship<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COVID-19 POLICY<\/strong>
These are subject to change to conform to the Alberta Government guidelines and also the ACA COVID Policy stated below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ECC will be following the REP (restrictive exemption program) set forth the the AB government. This means proof of vaccination will be required before entering and masks will be required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Policy for under 12 years old:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A facility (or event) that is running a restriction exemption program is allowed to include those 12 and under without screening them (as they are currently ineligible for the vaccine).  This would be similar to other public places that are allowing those 12 and under to participate (restaurants, spectators at sports events, etc.  The chess tournament is not classified as a \u201cyouth activity\u201d so those 13-17 would still need to be screened and provide proof of vaccination\/negative test\/medical exemption.  All participants still need to wear masks while indoors and exclude themselves if they are experiencing any symptoms.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By entering this tournament,<\/strong> players agree that the ECC, ACA and Edmonton Youth Regional organizers cannot guarantee that they will not as a result become infected with COVID-19. Entrants further certify that during the 14-day period before the tournament, they have not experienced any symptoms associated with COVID-19, which include fever, cough, or shortness of breath, or had close or direct contact with anyone who is either confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within two weeks of the tournament,<\/strong> if you experience any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please do NOT attend. These symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever, respiratory distress, and shortness of breath. If within two weeks of the tournament, you have any close or direct contact with anyone who is either confirmed or suspected of having COVID-19, please do NOT attend. This includes close or direct contact with anyone who is experiencing or displaying any symptoms consistent with COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tie-Break Procedures<\/strong>
In case two or more players are tied for first place, the following tie-break procedure will apply:
1) Head to head result.  This will only apply if all the players in a tied group played each other.
2) Tie-break match. If two players are tied, they will play a two-game match with the time control of Game\/10
minutes + 5 seconds per move.
If more than two players are tied, they will play a round-robin tournament with the same time controls. If the tie is
still not broken, the procedure will be repeated; however, the time control will be:
Game\/3 minutes + 2 seconds\/move time control. 
Tie-breaks for all other places will be determined by the following criteria:
If Swiss system pairing system is used:
a) Buchholz (total scores of opponents)
b) Sonnenborn-Berger (total scores of opponents beaten plus half the scores of opponents drawn)
c) Most wins
d)Most games with the black pieces.
If the tournament is played in a Round-Robin format:
a) Sonnenborn-Berger (total scores of opponents beaten plus half the scores of opponents drawn).
b) Koya System (Only counting the scores of opponents who scored 50% or more).
