Registration<\/strong>: Fill out the registration form above. Payment will be made on site by cash. Pre-registered players must show up by 10:45 am on January 28 or they won’t be paired.

Format:\u00a0<\/strong>The exact format of each section will depend on the number of participants but players should expect to play 4 games.

Time control:<\/strong>\u00a0Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second increment.

Entry fee:<\/strong>\u00a0$15 if pre-registered online by 10 PM, Monday, January 22, $20 afterwards and on site.

Byes:<\/strong>\u00a0Up to two 1\/2-point byes are allowed in rounds 1-3 if requested before the start of the tournament.

Approximate Schedule on January 28<\/strong>
On-Site Registration:\u00a010:15 am – 10:45 am
Rounds 1 and 2:\u00a011:00 am – 12:30 pm\u00a0
Lunch break:\u00a012:30 pm – 1:00 pm (pizza will be provided)
Rounds 3 and 4:\u00a01:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Tie-breaks (if necessary) and awards:\u00a0immediately after the completion of the last round

Prizes in each section:<\/strong>
1st place:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Free entry to the 2018 Alberta Youth Chess Championship (held on Feb 24-25 in Calgary) + $100 of professional chess coaching.
2nd place<\/em><\/strong>: Free entry to the 2018 Alberta Youth Championship
Top Girl<\/em><\/strong>– Medal.Medals for top finishers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tie-Break Procedures<\/strong>
In case two or more players are tied for\u00a0first place, the following tie-break procedure will apply:<\/strong>
1) Head to head result.\u00a0 This will only apply if all the players in a tied group played each other.
2) Tie-break match. If two players are tied, they will play a two-game match with the time control of Game\/10minutes + 5 seconds per move.If more than two players are tied, they will play a round-robin tournament with the same time controls. If the tie isstill not broken, the procedure will be repeated; however, the time control will be: Game\/3 minutes + 2 seconds\/move time control.
Tie-breaks for\u00a0all other places\u00a0will be determined by the following criteria:If Swiss system pairing system is used:<\/strong> a) Buchholz (total scores of opponents) b) Sonnenborn-Berger (total scores of opponents beaten plus half the scores of opponents drawn) c) Most wins d)Most games with the black pieces.
