Tournament format: 6-round Open Swiss, CFC rated both sections and FIDE rated in over 1800 section.   1. 1800 and over  2. Under 1800

CFC membership is required and may be purchased on site. Annual membership is $43 for adults, $28 for juniors. CFC tournament membership is $21 for adults, $11 for juniors.

Time Control: Game in 90 minutes + 30 seconds/move

Round Times
Saturday, November  9: 12 noon and 5 pm
Sunday, November 10: 10 am  and 3 pm
Monday, November 11: 10 am and 3 pm
(everyone is guaranteed a minimum of 30 minutes break between games)

Registration: Register in advance by filling out the information form at the bottom of the page. No payments to onsite. Fully refundable up to Oct 1, 2019, after which there will be a $10 service charge.

Deadline for registration online is Wednesday, November 7th at midnight.

Pre-registered players must come by 11:45 am on the morning of the first round or they will not be paired.

Entry Fee: 
1800 and Over Section 
Free for GM/IM/WIM  
$80 after Oct 1, less any discounts listed below.

Under 1800 Section
$60 after Oct 1, less any discounts listed below.

Discounts: 
$20 Juniors (under 20 years old),  senior players (over 65), FMs, females, first time CFC players  (only one $20 discount from this category, so a 65 year old FM would only get a reduction of $20)
Playing up a Section: Players who were not rated 1800 when they registered or on Nov 9, can play up a section for an additional $20.

Byes: A maximum of two half-point byes available in rounds 1-5 if requested before the start of round 1.

Prizes: ((75 % of the Sum of entry fees)  (minus the ACA dues of $5 per paid entry))  plus $300 donation from CUPE LOCAL 4318. $500 added to 1st prize. If a tie, then an Armegeddon playoff for the $500 anonymous donation.

Bonus ‘Fischer Prize’ In Over 1800 section an additional $1000 will be awarded for a perfect 6-0 score. In event of more than 1 perfect score, the Armageddon playoff will determine the winner on top of the Armageddon prize!

Accommodation: Special chess rates at Banff Centre. $130 for double
occupancy, add $20 for a additional person, up to max of quad plus
applicable taxes. Guestroom rates are subject to a facility fee of $15.00 plus
GST per person, per day. This fee includes: campus-wide Wi-Fi, phone calls
across North America, access to Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation
facilities, parking, access and borrowing privileges at The Banff Centre
library and archives, and access to complimentary arts and programmed

A dinner reception will be held at the home of Ian Findlay and Janice
Price on Sunday, November 10 at 7:00 pm.
