The Roving ChessNuts

Since 2001, The Roving ChessNuts have given basic and higher levels of instruction to over 4,500 individuals, mainly scholastic players (Kindergarten through Grade 12) in Edmonton and region, along with workshops and school programs in various places around Alberta. Various levels of instruction are provided in classes, chess camps and individually in schools, public libraries, community venues, chess clubs and our own training facility in northeast Edmonton. Our instructors are police-checked and insured. Many of our students have become provincial and national champions and top contenders provincially and nationally.
We treat chess as an educational tool and a sport, and our students must abide by a code of conduct emphasizing sportsmanship and fair play.
In addition, The Roving ChessNuts are involved in organizing and directing various chess competitions ranging from school and local events to regional, provincial and national scholastic events. Over the past 10 years, these competitions have attracted over 25,000 participants.
Instructional fees vary depending on the type of lessons being taken and can be as low as $5 per hour for some classes and camps. Family discounts are offered and we have funding arrangements in place for deserving families and for helping children whose development would benefit from learning and participating in chess.
The Roving ChessNuts work closely with the non-profit Society of Alberta Chess Knights which is involved in developing and promoting chess, awarding chess students showing progress, and holding and sponsoring a variety of chess and other activities for young chess enthusiasts of all skill levels.
