Alberta Chess Association

This is the 7th edition of The Edmonton International Chess Festival.  One of only two annual competitions in Western Canada that offers international norms opportunities.

The competition will take place in the Edmonton Chess Club located at:

The main event consists of 10 players playing in a Round-Robin format.

This year a special treat awaits the Edmonton chess community as former world championship finalist-Grandmaster Nigel Short will take part in the main event.  Besides playing in the tournament GM Short will conduct an open to all lecture at the ECC on Tuesday, June 26 at 7 pm.

The main event will be complimented with an open to all "Reserves" section.  Please note that due to limited space only 30 players will be allowed into the "reserves" section, so register early. That tournament will run in a Swiss format on June 30-July 2nd.  Side events will include a lecture by GM Short followed by a simul by US Women's Champion IM Irina Krush.  An Edmonton International Blitz tournament will follow the completion of the International and Reserves sections.
